A Busy Mom’s Bookshelf

by confidentmom on May 31, 2012

I have to say that I am getting in more reading time in the past few months since I broke down and purchased a Kindle Fire.  I was an avid Kindle “disliker”.  I wanted the real book – to curl up on the sofa and a book open in my lap just seemed right.  Well, somewhere along the road my feelings changed and I decided to purchase a refurbished one, a little cheaper but with the same warranty.
Can I just say I am sorry to all those that I mocked, “I will never be able to read from a screen device, I will always be a book girl.”  Um…..yeah.

I absolutely love that I can collect all kinds of FREE books for my Kindle, even if I think I may not read it, I download it and can have it handy if and when I ever do.   Being the thrifty girl that I am the free books were a big plus!

What have I been reading you ask?  Well, I would be glad to share with you!

52 Things Kids Need from a Mom by Angela Thomas

I just started this book on Monday and can hardly put it down.

What an amazing list of things that I miss the mark on – daily.  Oh, how I hate to see where I am failing, but at least I have grace and the power to change the future.  Her genuine ability to share from her own life is amazing and tends to show that she is human too.  If you are looking for a fresh perspective on your role as a mom, this is a must read!

Jesus Calling – Sarah Young

By far, the best devotional book I’ve had on my nightstand in a very long time.  WOW.

I feel that God is speaking directly to me and reminding me of where my focus should be – daily.  I am actually excited to get up and see what I read for the day and to open my bible and read the scripture that is referenced.  My journaling has taken a new dimension with the addition of this little treasure.

God’s Heart for You: Embracing Your True Worth as a Woman  – Holley Gerth

If you long to feel accepted, loved, encouraged and empowered to grow as a woman, this book will help you get there.

I most enjoy Holley’s writing and especially the questions that she introduces at the end of each short chapter.  It brings me into a deeper connection with the topic and helps it hit my heart.

The Choice – Nicolas Sparks

Okay, a fun read!  This one I checked out from the library (yes, easy to do with the Kindle!) and had it read in 3 days.  A great story of love, dedication and the power of miracles – I don’t want to share too much!  A great book to keep in your beach bag.

My favorite book currently is The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer. It not only gives resolutions but the chapters are short so you can tackle one a day, within a week you are on the resolution. I have read most of it and already plan to reread it.

I have to agree with you on the Kindle as well. I had always said the same thing, how do you curl up with a screen? But I have found that I love it. I am able to take my library with me when I had to go to work, or when I take my dd to the park or swimming lessons.
